I just got off of the phone with one of my best friends, we haven't talked in a while because she moved away a couple of weeks ago and she just gave me some really scary news. She told me that a few weeks ago she found a lump on her breast... and that she's terrified that it could be cancer (appearently breast cancer runs in her family) and she started crying and told me she didn't know what to do. She's only 20 and she has a beautiful six month old little boy... shes scared and so am I! I told her to go to the docotor ASAP and that it could be cancer and then again it may not, that it could be calcium build up. I am so terrified right now... I don't know what to say or do, I'm trying to be strong for her no matter what the out come may be but I'm scared. I don't want to see her have to go through something like this and it broke my heart when she started saying that she didn't want to die and leave her little boy alone, that she wanted to be there to see what kind of man he'll turn out to be one day. I don't know what to think or do... I just need to tell someone and talk to someone about it because right now I'm going crazy on the inside.

So sorry to hear that about your friend sweetie! You did the right thing by telling her to go see a doc asap, that's the best thing she can do right now. You also gave her an ear to talk to which I am sure she needs right now. Just remain to be the awesome friend you are hun! *Big hugs*

Keep us posted on her condition, please.

Just hope the Doctors can find it before its too late! Your friend is going to start getting check-ups on her breast, if it runs in her family. Can never be to safe

Your discomfiting words are not welcome.

Katie, the chance that a 20-year-old has breast cancer, even if it runs in her family, is very small. The lump is almost certainly something besides cancer. Still, she needs to be checked by a doctor to find out what's going on, so you gave her the right advice. My best wishes are with your friend.

Sis *cuddles* as steve said the chances of one so young having breast cancer is slim, but not impossible i might add. My mum had breast cancer before she was 50, and when her sister got found lumps we of course thought the worst, however they were just cysts and nothing to worry about. I would be thinking breast cancer if i could a lump in my breast, however there are other things it can be, and with her being so young, i would imagine it will be nothing to worry about.

Keep us posted hon...........hope everything is ok.

I know that the chance are small but stil possible, and I was just in "Oh my God, I don't know what to do and how do I help my friend" mode yesterday.... I've calmed myself down a bit lol When I talked to her I told her that the lump she found could be a number of things and now that I think about how she described it I'm thinking that it could very possibly be a cysts. It's on her aerola (ms?) near her nipple. She says that it was just as small area that was raised (kind of like a pimple) and it shrunk in size for a little while and then it increased in size and I figured that it was a cysts. I told her to talk to a doctor and that she needed to exhaust all of her options and that no matter what this is, I've got her back, I'll be there every step of the way.

Thank you all for your kind words, they really helped ^_^

Of course you will be there hon, you're one of those friends who are few and far between, and the ones who should be treasured *cuddle*

The more i read the less i think it is breast cancer actually, when is she going to the doctors?

Thanks sis *cuddles*

I haven't talked to her in the last two days, but she is supposed to take her son for his check up next week and she said while we were talking on the phone that she'll have it checked then. I'm waiting for her to give me a ring (I don't have the number to the place she's staying) so I'll know whats going on!

A friend/family member are the second group of person(s) that is effected when stuff like this happens. You just have to try to not think about it, and if she has cancer, fight with her, help her fight it. People with illnesses need lots of support, and thats where the second group of people need to step up.

I feel for you, but your in it together, good luck, and I hope you feel better.
