first off, marijuana would be the worst thing for an ADD student. unless they were extremely strong willed and used it recreationally. and I highly doubt 80% of them would.
marijuana is a downer, an unmotivator. it's the last thing someone with ADD needs. I've seen it turn people into mindless beings who don't have a clue of what they want to do with their life. marijuana is not a solution.

(I know this is a really old thread, so I appologise ahead of time)
I know a mother that gives her son pot in pill form, they get no high, but their concentration is amazingly better, and it's the only thing that works for their chlid. He doesn't know it's pot, and he is finally doing well in school. No offense, but if it works it works. If the pharmacutical industry would get their grips into weed, it would be legal tomorrow and you know that as well as I do.

Erm.. offhand sounds like an excuse to do drugs.
But, I'm not a doctor..so there is a chance it might help.
with add I would say "no" I mean... if your jsut having trouble focusing... then the lack of motivation would probably kill anything you have left in the way of even trying.
However, adhd .. it might just bring you down enough to focus..
Thena gain.. I dunno i'm no doctor.

It's not really an excuse to do drugs...and every pothead I know has better study habbits then I do. I havent seen it as an "Unmotivator" more like a focuser. I'm not advocating the misuse of it, just saying it's not the hellish drug it's made out to be.

FIrst off this is an old post, but since its been brought again I have some shit to say about it.
First off bob already smokes enough pot pepsi. if it were going to help him with his concentration and what not, bob would aready be off the procrastanatoers mailing lists.
second I agree if pharacuticakl companys embraced it it would be legal in hours instead of the years it will take to get it done.

I know about stem and leaf tea, Iv had seed pancakes, Iv gotten really high from every way Iv used it.
Im all for using it do do any good and for recreational reasons as well but I dont buy take a pill and not get a buzz.

I actually really agree with that, i think half of what it is, is that he's getting a pill a day that in his mind should be making him better, so he is. Placebo + power of suggestion.

I was being facetious. Poor Bob, might not be able to focus his way out of bed, if he were to give it up.
ON that note, I am pro pot for those who will benefit from it, but my personal experience has shown me, that recreational daily users, seem to eventually just flush their lives down the "pot"...

My life isnt downt eh shitter ?
I own my own business, its gettig bigger and better, atleast in equipment, and I nearly have the money needed to pay the state to upgrade my license to general plus, all my bonds and insurance.
Iv got about 25 k in tools and turcks and shit. I smoke it when I feel like it. Its not daily, but Im a recreational user.
The danger is the illegal factor, its that drug charge that getting caught with ruins your life, not the pot its self.
iv been smoking since I was fucking 14, Im now nearly 36.
I dont see a big problem with it, I dont buy the gateway shit, and its proven to be less addictive than caffiene. Its easier to get "hooked" on pepsi (pun intended) than it is to get hooked on Mary Jane.
There has never been an overdose of MJ, no fatalities, it doesnt lead to violence like booze does for so many people.
Its a great anti depressant, I sleep better when I toke, my boughts of insomnia are alwasy cured by a Jay. Lastly, sex, fucking stoned to the bone sex, I cant even describe the details of why its better, if ya dont know, youll never be able to understandthe sweaty fucking like pigs in the mud sex that comes from stoned sex.

I agree that the illegal factor is an issue (it sux)...but I wasn't talking about the recreational user, I was talking about peops like my ex, who, smoke a bowl when they wake up, another at break, another at lunch, another at break, and 3 more when they get home..
His father, his brothers, and his friends, are all under educated (most of em, him included, didn't finish high school, or even get a GED).
He got me stoned at 15, I smoked ocassionally until I was 27, and then, just quit. Eh, no biggie, I don't miss it. If there isn't something around to keep me entertained, I'm useless, I pass out, and am gone for about 6 hours. Great sleep granted, but gone. It was awesome for the pain when I hurt my back initially, I hurt so friggin bad, I didn't sleep for 4 weeks, then found a toke, and got a decent rest. But I was hurting so bad, I couldn't lift myself off the toilet! That was SO jacked! I could pee in the shower, but ya know, #2 has to happen sometimes..
Anyhoo...I don't cap it too hard, but the daily smokers I have known, aren't anywhere...it is really sad.

ADHD can be treated with a drug called ritilin, which is speed. it helps them as it has the opposite affect on people with ADHD than on people who dont have it

there is a load of research that has been done on this, and it does work really well, big improvements on their concentration and all round quality of life

Although Ritalin (methylphenidate) has a somewhat related structure to speed (methamphetamine) and related effects, they are not the same compound and do not have identical effects.

I smoked weed for 6 months straight. It doesn't decrease motivation unless you let it. It all depends on how you use and appraise marijuana. You can abuse marijuana. But you can also make your own rules and say hey, I'll only smoke a little of this each day so I can focus.
I think the doctor is right. With a controlled dose, I think a child could focus better. I know my focus increases when I smoke weed and I get a lot more done. When I first started using it worked against my anxiety, contrary to popular belief that it increases anxiety. I was more confident, and I was a lot more easy-going.
