Alright i first want to say this... please no bashing.. just please dont ok well here goes.... im 16.... two summers ago me and my friends started drinking... and we thought it was awesome.... so you know we would do it like once a month maybe... and we were pretty young so it only took about 5 or 6 beers and we were pretty drunk... and then once that summer ended and i went into my freshman year we kinda chilled out on it... then in about march of last year... me and my friends started drinking in my basement... and it became basically an every weekend kind of thing.. usally at my house but sometimes my friends house. and then came summer... and i drank every night for about the first week in a half... and my friends all told me i needed to chill out...so i did and football started up and i would proly drink once a week... and ive been doing it once a week ever since... sometimes on friday and saturday... and about 70% of the time i drank atleast 8 beers... a couple of the nights i reached 18... and basically there a couple of reasons i am talking about this... one is... my uncle is an alcholic... and my grandma used to be... is alcholism genetic? and what all is this doing to my body and once again plz dont bash me... just talk to me

The chances of becoming an alcoholic can be raised by a variation in dopamine receptor genes. People who have this variation have a small but significant tendency towards addiction to opiates and alcohol. If your family members have had problems with alcohol then you are at risk of also becoming an alcoholic, but this alone doesn't make it certain.
Alcohol is not a completely negative substance, it is actually advised to have alcohol included in your diet as it promotes longevity. But at the moment, you're too young to be drinking the quantities that you have been consuming, and you are further at risk because of the history of alcoholism in your family. My suggestion would be for you to cut down, you can still enjoy the odd drink with your friends but try to limit yourself, especially if you plan on playing intensive sports like football.

We're here to help, and bashing someone for having a drinking problem, or being afraid of developing one, wouldn't have been very helpful.

We all suffer wit haddictions, and it is hard to cutback, so I can emphasize with you. For example I tried to cutback on porn, so I did, one thing you have to do though is reward yoruself by maybe letting yourself drink, but only on occasions, its best to do it gradually, like if you drink 4 out of 7 nights a week, and you drink 8 beers, cut it down to 7 beers, the next week, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2... 2 isnt bad, then cut your days, go to 3, then 2, or one up to you.

Is it something that you deal with by drinking because you canīt talk to anyone about it? My dadīs an alchoholic. He just got surgery bc of pancreatitis (caused by alcohol abuse) I was too. Itīs his fault. Lol jk. You gain weight and you can loose all your money if you like other stuff. Well, beer is cheap. But still...

Thats bullshit. Iv been drinking since I was about 14. I am now nearly 36. the last few years I did not activly make a decision to stop drinking it just sorta happened. I had a beer sunday at the inlaws, thast the first drink Iv had since I dont know when, I think it may of been the first drink Iv had since this year started, the last drink I remember before that was labor day on a camping trip with some freinds. You do not need alchahol to have fun. It makes it easier, makes people looser, and stupider. I have nothing against drinking I used to do it full time from the time I woke up till I passed out at night to get 2 or 3 hours sleep and get up and start over again and goto work and drink there as well. After my divorce I was really into drinking. I had an apartment with a buddy, one weekend between he and I we emptied 4 cases of beer(24 pack) and 4 bottles of Vodka, 3 of Jim beam and 2 bottles of rum. Not pints mind you, fifths. Iv had alot of good times drinking and I never decided I quit, I still drink when Im in the mood, it just happens so rarely now. There is so much shit I cant do drunk that I get to do sober thats fun. Im heavy in climbing rock and Ice, cant do that drunk, I have on my porch currently 5 mountain bikes, cant take those off road in the hills for fun when your drunk, backpacking ? Ok I do drink packing, shit Iv walked a 30 mile trail drunk, and walked out hung over and throwing up every few yards for that same 30 miles. what took me 2 days to walk in took me nearly 5 to walk out sick. fly fishing, Id have nothing more than knots and no fish if I were drunk. fishing from a bank on alake with a worm? sure as hell Ill do that drunk. take the guns out for some fun? no way in hell. swimming? I think not. Basketball? we have had some drunken bball games, more than one of us got some stitches and a nice pretty cast on an arm or leg and tape on a nose from that.
I cant shit on you for drinking, fuck knows Iv done enough of it myself. It is however, not the be all end all of a good time. At your age there are serious risks and punishments associated with booze. When I was 15 I did a month stint in Juvy corrections for not giving up who had bought me the beer. the health risks are real as well, and ever hear of whiskey dick? How would you like to get some hot young girl begging you to fuck her and nto be able to get it up? Dont make drinking the only fun outlet in your life. Ther is alot more shit you can do sober thats fun than you can do drunk. I think the only thing I never tried drunk was waterskiing, Im betting that wouldnt work out to well either, snow skiing sucks drunk, and water skiing is alto harder than snow skiing. Use your head, dont drive drunk, dont be a slob, lazy idiot bastard. Its easy to let it take control of your life.

Alcoholism is a very scary thing.
It runs in my family.. Pretty much every male in my family has turned to alcohol except for my dad.
This includes all my uncles, my grandpa.. and now even my 22 year old brother. Now the majority of them are suffering from depression and the only thing they seem to be able to turn to is alcoholism.
The first step is admitting that you have a problem.. which is really huge.. and im proud of you for realizing it. I wouldnt initially cut out all alcohol.. because thats just soo hard.. try cutting back a bit every time you drink. And if you cant seem to stop.. maybe then it would be about time to reassess your options.
Good luck with everything <3

I used to to drink occasionally..but one time I got so absolutly wasted, the effects are undesirable to me anymore...my parents even told me that when I first started drinking. "One day your going to be stupid and drink so much, you'll never wanna drink again" I don't suggest doing that, as alcohol poisoning or liver failure, etc can occur... But if you really want to stop, then find something that will replace it.

when I was in grade 10.. me and a bunch of friends got together and got drunk.. they all smoked weed before i got there.. and my best friend got alcohol poisoning and was throwing up blood.. and she didnt even drink that much. We had to call the ambulance and she almost died. It was really scary.

Okay now in my health class we did go over this subject, so im kind of fresh on this. here is an answer to one question is it genetic? in some familys there is an trait where you to could become addicted, i forgot what it is called. but you should try to slow down just a little at a time like cut off one or two beers at a session, because if you stop all at once you could suffer from beer withdrawl and its pretty hard to explain. but just what ever you do don't stop all at once.
good luck

Dont drink and drive! Ive blacked out a few occasions and woke up at home cuz i drove my drunk ass home. It was stupid. Best advise i can give drink enough to get a nice buzz going then take a beer ever hour and usually people wont bitch at you if they see you have a drink in your hand. But you dont want to be working on a girl all night then get plastered then some other guy swoop in for the kill do you? Good luck football, also dont get drunk by yourself because that means your an alcoholic.
