I love my boyfriend to death despite his flaws except he smokes. Hes told me he quit before but I have spies. Now he dips. He says its to make him stop smoking but now he dips like 24/7! I wasn't on the phone with him for 3 hours and he dipped twice. He knows I hate it but he still isn't quitting. ANY ideas on what to do? I need all I can get. Thanks in advance!

I guess ull just have to keep trying... Does he really wanna quit or is he just doing it for u? Maybe u should have a talk with him? Maybe he doesnt really wanna quit but is trying to make u happy. Just trying to help, the oly thing i ever quit was smoking weed and i just stopped.

well hes told me before he wants to stop and if he does either any that day i wont kiss him and he hates that so i'm not sure wut else to do and everytime we talk about it we end up fighting and he feels like i'm tryin to "change him".....not change just improve a little but thanks...anyone have any more ideas?

oh my gosh! ok now i have a new question. he just told me that hes dipping to get him to stop smoking...well then isn't he just gonna be addicted to dipping? i dont get this at all.

If i were you I would tell him as long as he is dippimg I would kiss him. Anywaus how old are you and your boy friend?

I don't think dipping is much better. I think you are still introducing nicotine into your body. Plus, dipping can ruin your gums and the risk of oral cancer is significantly increased.

well i dont want to put up with it at all trust me its not sumthing i jump for joy at when he does it. now hes gotten to the point to where he'll ask me n i'll go, "u kno wut i'll say but do w/e" n i walk off n that makes him mad....i'm just at a total loss for what to do. but thanx anyways you guys

Smokers are a stubborn bunch. My buddy's ex-wife smokes constantly and she has asthma, bad allergies and seems to get bronchitus a lot. She is always sick and coughing, but she swears smoking has nothing to do with it. She's convinced the contrails from jets are making her sick. There's apparently a consiracy theory that the government is poisoning us by putting toxic chemicals in jet fuel, as some sort of population control. She has also been afraid of contracting the West Nile Virus for the past several years, and recently they said Arizona leads the nation in cases of that disease, so I am sure she's freaking out about it. Of course, I haven't seen a mosquito in Arizona for twelve years...
I will feel no pity for her if she gets lung cancer or emphasema. She won't quit. Everybody tells her to, but she remarried another smoker so I am sure she'll never stop.

Personally I think you are too tolerant with the issue. If I were you I tell him to quit for have fun smoking or dipping w/o a girl friend.

Good idea. A lot of smokers/dippers don't realize that their bad habits affect other people.
Personally, I wouldn't date someone who did either.

He's liable to get mouth cancer faster than lung cancer. I don't see dipping as a viable alternative. Maybe he should try the nicotine patch or some nictine gum. I've seen people who had to have their jaw removed due to cancer due to chewing. It ain't pretty.

well last time we dated(we started last year sept n broke up in march n have just gotten back together in july) i wouldn't and didn't kiss him for a month b/c of it but i gave in...well he just stuck his tounge in my mouth so should i just go back to cuttin him off from kissin? i told him tonight that until he quits i wont believe him b/c hes told me that before. but then i feel so bad when i say that cause i feel like i need to support him better and help him but i honestly wont belive him till he does.

My uncle did that (quitting cold turkey) after smoking for nearly 30 years. I am proud of him. Hopefully, he will get lucky and not have to deal with any health problems associated with smoking for so long.
Nicotine in itself isn't dangerous, is it? It's the carcinogenic material in tobacco that is.

too bad i hate the mall...lol but i know what u mean. he told me in 8th grade over christamas break that he would stop. that was before we started going out. but another thing....i'm allergic to cig smoke. both of his parents smoke also(thats how he gets the cigs) and his brother dips(thats how he gets the dip) so i mean from wut i see...he has no support from his family, well his dad goes "if ur dippin stop" and thats it. loving right? lol but thanx u guys
