Over the last week, my wife and I both have what appear to be multiple bug bites on our legs, the majority on our feet / ankles / shins. They started on both of us around the same time so we figured we had fleas in our bedroom (no pets). Once scratched, it soon starts to form a small blister filled with water.
We did a full room cleaning yesterday (and changed comforters/sheets last week) and discovered little/nothing other than the usual bedbug, mostly dead. We've been getting 1-2 bites even after the sheets were completely changed.
We've also started trying for a baby recently so we were wondering if this could be an STD of some sort. I've already looked up chicken pox / shingles but they say it's likely to be in the center of the body or on one side and not all down near the feet. Do STDs only occur in the genital area? If so, we don't have any problems there. I just wanted to rule things out and to possibly get any other ideas. Thanks.

Agreed.
Bedbugs are not a normal occurrence, unless you don't wash your sheets and yourselves appropriately.
As to your problem, if you have bedbugs than I am going to go with bug bites as your problem. To solve the problem you need to start washing your sheets once a week at least. I'd also clean your mattress as well because the bugs can also live and lay eggs on the mattress.
Also, just so we are clear when people describe "bedbugs" they are usually implying Crabs. If this is the case than you need to do a full clean of your bed, bathroom (Tub, shower and toilet) and wash all your clothes thoroughly otherwise you will get re-infestation.

sorry I had no idea about the crabs. I think there were like 5 dead bugs about 1/4 inch long and has a brown stripe in the middle. I did find 2 fleas over the course of cleaning (downstairs this time). I think another factor is the bite marks only down at the ankles. A few articles indicate they are fleas since that's the only area of the body they can reach from the ground plus this would probably indicate we're getting them at a time other than when we're lying down. I've just carpet cleaned 3 rooms downstairs so we'll see where this goes...
BTW, does everyone really change their sheets once a week? I think typically we've been doing it once every month or two.

It might not be crabs, but a lot times people refer to crabs as bedbugs (Atleast in my area of the world lol). Look at the link Helms supplied, it'll give you a better understanding. If you want to check for crabs look around the pubic region and you can usually see them attached to the skin, plus they usually make you itch as well.

Well, I hope so... I was raised in a house that the bed linens were washed every sunday. I think going one or two months without washing the sheets is very excessive and well dirty.

Change the sheets more frequently, and get a product called RID. It doesn't sound like an STD.

I had a bed bug case with the people that lived next door to me. My parents own that house, so they had to take care of it. The people were extremely dirty and left garbage on the floor. Everytime I used to visit as a small child, I would always find at least one cokcroach on the wall, and lots of leftover trash on the floor, i.e. potato chip bags, socks, bowls smeared with ketchup, tissue, etc. The parents had nice kids and all, and I made friends with them, and they weren't necessarily dirty, either - their home was just so uncleaned! I would've likely guessed they stopped taking care of their sheets after a while as well, and got bed bugs. The only thing I can tell you is what everyone else told you. Good luck
