Hello. \:\)

I am a 17-year old girl, about to head off to college, but there's something that has been bothering me since I got into high school. I have never had sex, and never masturbated, but I have a very large inner labia that I find uncomfortable and unsightly. It's not as if I'm trying to impress anybody with it, but I find it almost repulsive, nonetheless.

It gets in the way of physical activity (I used to go bike-riding a lot, but I don't anymore because it gets pulled in all t he wrong places). When I walk up stairs or sometimes even sit the wrong way, my labia gets positioned all wrong and it becomes painful. In fact, I try to avoid most physical activity altogether (which is bad, because I really want to lose weight!) because my labia gets pulled around and develops lesions where it has scraped against my pantiliners. Even when I have to go to the bathroom in a hurry, I either have to go far ahead of time or squat down and wait for the feeling to pass so I can stand and unzip my pants, because if I remove my underwear too fast, my labia gets pulled with my underwear (and sometimes ripped a little!) in the process. I even spend extra money on overnight pads to cushion myself so that it doesn't hurt too much. It is all extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing, and I didn't think there was a remedy for this until I found out about it on the internet. Keep in mind, an operation would be purely for comfort and self-esteem reasons, and not for cosmetic or "attracting males" reasons.

So my question is: should I get a labia reduction? If so, about how much would it cost, and would insurance cover it? Has anyone else had such an operation, and can they tell me about the post-op pain and recovery? How should I go about informing my parents about this? I'd really like to do it before I go to college and end up having to bike across campus, which would really suck in the condition I am in. ;__;

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. \:D

As a man, I can't say I've ever had the surgury, but if it really is causing you discomfort I suppose you could get it done. As for informing your parents, perhaps you should just tell them the truth about what you're needing done? From what I hear, pain is like any standard cosmetic surgery, in other words, you wont be able to finger yourself or rub. Also I hear sitting can be very uncomfortable for the first few weeks.

Also, understand that as with all surgery, a loss of feeling or an increase of feeling can occur. There is a possibility of losing feeling in your labia as well as becoming hypersensitive in your labia.

Hope that helps a little!

Haha, having no feeling down there might be a bit welcoming, considering the amount of discomfort I've had so far. We're going to visit a gynecologist soon, so I think that might be a good time to bring it up.

Thanks! \:\)

Someone here years ago had a reduction and was very happy with it. Couldn't give you details though.
