I only started playing online poker about 4 days ago. But I've been playing it everyday and winning quite a bit, (only fake chips, not real) around 3 - 4 hours a day. One of my friends said if I keep this up I will eventually have a gambling addiction?
When should I stop playing it? (I could just be playing it a lot because I just got it a few days ago, its new)
When someone has a gambling addiction, is it hard to get rid of?
Is there even a big chance of getting an addiction from an online game?

lmao... is there a big chance of getting addicted to an online game...
ever heard of these titles.
Everquest, World Of Warcraft, Runescape, DnD?
coming from an Ex Gambler, and a current semi gambler, yes its hard to stop gambling after playing poker excessively, i used to play it online for money, and lost about 2,200, won about 2,300... so i still won... but all the side bets that i made, made it even out more...
currently its hard for me to NOT gamble on things, and i make at least one bet a day, now there small, but they used to be big..
i played russian roulette once, for money, luckily i won, but anyways,
my suggestion is that, if ur going to play poker, play it in real life. online poker is so addicting and harder to win at then real poker...
and make sure to even out ur poker time with your life time...
or im willing to bet that you will become a gambler... wanna bet?

I'm not legal age to go into a casino and play it in real life, and honestly, I don't even want to make a real money bet with some friends.
And where/who did you play Russian Roulette with? o-o
But thanks for the post. I'm going to try to not play it so much.

The addiction comes from the feeling of winning, from the risk, from teh pay off. as well as many factors from your heritage and childhood. Im a compulsive gambler. IF I hit nevada I fill up the gas tank as soon as I hit town, never take credit cards, and never take more cash than I can live with out. Ill win big, or lose everything, but at least i got gas to get my ass home on.

It's a game. So long as you're not using real money there's no chance of becoming an addict.
The moment you take a step towards poker with real money is when you should start worrying.

I have to say, I think you wrong, money doesnt matter, not in addiction. its the rush, the risk, not the money. Iv been able to walk away when Iv been up by 3 or 4 grand, but if I jsut got started Ill give it all back before I walk away, its a certain amount of time, so much loss over time, and getting the shit out of my system, not the money, that drives my gambling addiction. I win big, or I come home broke. its not the money, its the fun and competition, especially with poker, much more so than say slots or black jack. Money has nothing to do with why I gamble. I do not however play games, online or on systems, video games bore me and detract from real life and experiences I could be having, I find them to be a waste of time.

So why not find a friendly local group that plays poker for fun, not money. There are plenty around here, and the most you'll ever pay is $20 initial entry (mainly to pay for the services) and a $100 prize.
I enjoy playing poker, I have for a long time, yet I have never played for money.
It's the same as watching sports, I know a guy who is an addict, and he cannot watch a game without placing a bet. He thinks it's boring otherwise.
