Hey guys (and gals)
I'm 19 years old and was constipated for about a week. The reason for this was probably because I drink Pepsi and Coffee constantly and after thinking about it, hadn't had water in days before I became constipated (meaning there probably isn't an unknown reason for the problem).

Anyway I took some laxatives and got that cleared up (and yes, I am making sure that I drink more water now), but now when I try to have a bowel movement (a few days later) I feel a lump inside my anus. I think it's blocking feces from getting out because I have to push a bit harder now, but it does get out fine (I am drinking water and stool softeners to make it easier). I've been reading about this and I guess it's probably an internal hemorrhoid (sp?) or a fissure, and I'm wondering a few things.

First of all, I don't want to go see a doctor if it can be avoided, but I know there comes a point when I should and I was wondering when that would be. I have been hearing that this generally goes away by itself in 2-4 weeks, any truth to that?

Second of all, is there anything that works well to numb the pain or heal the problem that doesn't involve a doctor or a suppository? There is something about sticking things in my anus that I'm not in love with ;\)

Thanks in advance for the help.
(BTW I haven't noticed any blood, but it doesn't mean there isn't any, I just haven't been looking that hard)

Welcome to A2A, coasterbill. Is there bad pain? If there is, then I would suggest it's time to go to the doctor now. Otherwise you could give it a couple of weeks.

If the stool softeners are laxatives, that's not a good idea. The bowel muscles lose tone. What you want is lots of fibre (as well as plenty of water).

If you won't see a doctor or take a suppository, you're cutting youself off from most useful treatment, it seems.
