Well, I finally decided I had the time to create a profile pic/avatar for this site, (I think I did have one in the past) but when I shrunk the pic down to the required pixil size it looks blurry compared to others' avatars. Is there anyways to get better resolution in my pic? The original is really high quality.

Thanks.

The reason why your avatar seems "blurry" is because your image is acutally 90 x 82 pixels. Here on A2A, the board automatically sets all avatars to a fixed 90 x 90. So, anything smaller will be "stretched" out to fit that size.

What I do is crop my avatars to 90 x 90 and save them as a PNG. The problem I have with JPEGs is the horrible compression. Sure, PNGs eat more space, but I like things to look purtty.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to go back and add a strip on the bottom for 8 pixels, to make the proportion work better.

I'll try the .png thing, but my image editing software sucks.

Thank a lot for your help!

gif use less space and they look good resized. but nomatter what you use (png, jpg, gif) smaller can;t go bigger and look good. bigger can easly go smaller and have a good look still to it.

If you not happy with it (albeitmyself ) i can fix it for you. Grins i made inliguble, rads and mine and they were first made large and then scales down.

Heh, I know that. It's always best to find a larger and better quality picture to reduce into something smaller. With smart resize and cropping, it's easy. But depending on your image, saving it is different. Depending on what you have, you have many options to choose. It's up to the individual what works best for their needs.

I have Paint Shop Pro and use the JPEG, GIF, and PNG exports to preview how my avatar will look for each format. Sometimes, JPEGs and GIFs work just fine but more times, I stick to PNGs just because, lol. Again, it all depends on what you have. Some formats will look better than others.

I prefer .png as well for images on the Internet. I find it odd that the forums would stretch it to make it 90 x 90. Usually, they only modify it if it is over the limit, not under.

i think (could be wrong) that the admins have it set.or maybe the doc set it when he did the update......so now it does that.

The software stretches it and we can't adjust it - it seems to be a bug. The only adjustment we can make is to the maximum size, which is set at 90 × 90 to be consistent with past avatars.
