I have a friend who feels she's extremely overweight and she's confessed to me she's been abusing laxatives for weight loss.

How dangerous is this and what does it have to do with weight loss?

I'm not quite sure on this issue, but it's definetly not healthy and they probably won't work when she really needs them later.

I think the idea is that by getting the food through your intestines quickly, you won't absorb as much from it. I don't think that works very well, and your body starts getting used to laxatives so when you stop you get constipated.

laxatives take a toll on your digestive system if they are abused over a long period of time. She needs to stop immediately. If she needs reason to stop, laxatives will not help with weight loss in the long run.
