I went to see my doctor about a long going condition called 'phimosis'. I talked about circumcision and I asked 'is steroid cream the way forward these days as I don't want to have my foreskin taken off?' The answer was yes. I know this is debatable, but I just wondered what does your doctors say in the U.S.? I know it's very traditional over there, but here in the UK I was told it is virtually non-existent for UK doctors to be using that as the cure.

I don't know if like the UK, the U.S. is adopting the steroid cream cure for phimosis or still sticking to the tradition of getting 'cut'. I know it makes life easier being done young and not having the problem with pulling it back in later life, but I can't help but think when having it done older it's going to be a very stress provoking thing.

Hopefully this steroid cream will work for me, I'm sure it will. Plus if it's being used all the time for phimosis in the UK and if circumcision is being phased out over here, then it must work surely?

I suspect part of the reason you haven't had many replies to this is that the wording of the question is rather confusing. I can't tell, for exampple, if you're saying that steriod cream is the normal treatment for phimosis in the UK and that circumcision is the equivalent treatment is the US, vice versa, or neither of these.

I do know that neonatal circumcision is rare in the UK and that modern medical practice in the UK is to adopt the least invasive treatment so surgery (albeit minor in the case of circumcision) is not normally done until other treatments such as drugs or topical preparations have failed.

I think he means, in the US does the doctor say, its time to get rid of the skin as oposed to in the UK where he would say try the cream

Does the doctors first approach in US = snip snip, rather than cream
as opposed to UK's cream rather than snippy

it might be, becuz topical steroids are pretty strong...and prolonged use is not recommended.
