according to what my bro says. i went to a bar with my roommate's friends and didn't even do anything, i just stood there, too shy to move. i didn't even say a word the entire night besides "yes and no". the shyness i get around people is astonishing, i can't do a single thing. college is, if not, worse than my high school social life.
so far i've been following my bro's advice on friend making, but it's not working out for me. i can't really be open about myself, there's nothing to talk about besides me talking down about myself.
my bro's flying to my city to help me out soon, i really hope he can help me.
if college was survival of the fittest, i should be extinct.

Have you tried asking other people about themselves?

I had this problem myself. Still do I suppose. I found out the best way to start for me was to start easy. I went to the frat houses. On Thursday nights there's no drama. Obey the rules of the beer pong list and other than that the only thing people want to do is have fun, and the later the night goes the more relaxed everyone is. Get names, mingle, etc. A simple "What's up man, are you having a good time?" goes a long way.
If you drink it makes it that much easier. I don't drink so it was a little awkward for me at first because everyone kept offering me drinks.
Now I drink a bit here and there in good nature of the company but I don't even get tipsy from it. I just take one beer for the night and sip on it here and there and that keeps people from offering it and also makes you "fit in" better.
The frat house parties have opened friendships alot for me through the simple networking of introductions.
I understand how hard it is man but this above really worked for me for helping get me out of my shell.

I mean that you spoke of your difficulty in opening up and talking about yourself, but often people are more than happy to talk about themselves instead.
