before i ask -- hello! i'm new. (:

i'm not sure if what i have is an uninary tract infection or not. it started saturday last week, and i had all the symptoms then (burning, constant urge to use the restroom, abdominal and back pains, etc.). i went to the doctor tuesday and they prescribed me orange pills that... well, turn my urine orange. haha. i also was prescribed antibiotics for strep throat.

i'll be taking the last orange one tonight, and the doctor told me with the antibiotics and those, it should be gone by now. i'm still feeling a burning sensation when i pee, and though i don't see any discharge, when i put a finger inside myself, there's a gooey, yellowish substance under my nail.

Welcome to A2A, Ammy!

You really should go back to the doctor, who ought to be told that the treatment, whatever it was, hasn't worked. (Your doctor should also tell you if the treatment is for a UTI or not.)

One possibility for the yellowish gunk is a yeast infection, and you can buy treatment for yeast at a pharmacist without prescription - it wouldn't hurt to try if you have to wait for an appointment with the doctor. However, there are other possibilities - it could be pus from urethritis - so you should get back to the doctor sooner rather than later.

thank you!

the doctor also said the test result didn't yield any sign of the bacteria that cause an UTI (doesn't that same bacteria also cause urethritis?), even though i had signs of it for about three days before going to see them. it should have had time to collect, right?

i will definitely be going back if it doesn't stop in a couple of days. i am sexually active, but i'm pretty sure my partner doesn't have STDs, lol. he's been tested.

Urethritis can be caused by quite a variety of bacteria and even at least one virus, a wider range than causes UTIs.

Whatever you have, there's a decent chance your partner may be harbouring the bacterium or virus or fungus himself, even if he has no symptoms. That's especially the case if it is a yeast infection or a urethritis, so you should both be treated.
