As some of you may/not know, I have phimosis.
I went to see the doctor and I was given a steroid cream treatment named 'disprosone'.
My concern is I have been using it for 6 days (3 times a day) and it hasn't made any improvment to my condition. I have been stretching the foreskin but I cannot seem to get my little finger in the opening - which my doctor suggested me to do; as a matter of fact the opening hasn't opened much either.
How long does it take for phimosis to start going away?
I know this varies from person to person, but what is the most common time period?
I'm really desperate to see this condition go - I've put up with it long enough.
If anyone here has had this problem and been cured; please don't be shy - I really need you to tell me.

I had it last year.. Lived the first 18 years of my life not even knowing that it was possible to pull my foreskin back.. how stupid is that eh:) anyways, when i found out that you were supposed to be able to, I went to work just stretching, never used any creams.. I spent probably two hours a day stretching and stretching, and mine was gone within two months. Just be committed to it. Pull on the loose skin at the front and pull it forward, then grab onto both sides and pull it apart, then try to pull it back over your penis head and go until you start to feel mild pain.. I guess if you go to far at once it can create scar tissue and make the problem worse, but mine didnt.. I started out with a hole which was much smaller than the end of a pencil eraser and it only took two months to expose the whole head.. Just be diligent with your stretching, and i imagine that cream will speed up the process

irvtree, like you I didn't even know I was supposed to pull it back until one day out of curiousity I wanted to know more about the foreskin and I found this site!
My parents never even told me anything about how I should pull it back and keep it clean. It's not even mentioned in schools either and in 'sex education'. I mean, how is a person to know if they aren't told? This is where problems develop and conditions like phimosis arise. If I was told sooner I sure wouldn't have this problem now.

You can't expect major results in 6 days... Like the other responded it took him 2 months. You have to be more patient than that.

If you did it in 6 days then you didn't have phimosis.

I wrote on the board 'Stretching the Foreskin' about a month ago, i came back and the board's been closed so I seem to be here now.
I've been stretching for a month now, and there seems to be improvement. I can now pull the foreskin over the head when flacid, and, only just, when erect... but I have to do it relatively slowly, i'm nowhere near ready for sex just yet.
My latest stretgy is to pull it right back when erect and leave it a while, i can feel it stretching the skin and it only gets painful if *really* erect. I think i'll start leaving it back overnight, although the head is so sensative i'm not so sure about that just yet. One thing that worries me is that the shaft of the forskin isn't as big as the head, so it can only stretch the skin as wide as the shaft. This will make it able to pull back, but surely it wont make it loose enough to go easily and quickly back and forth over the head, as required for sex. How will i get it *that* loose? (and i'm not so sure about the suggestion of using your fingers to stretch, as the tight area of the forskin seems to be deep in the skin, not on the outside where your fingers could reach).
If anybody can offer advice it would be much appreciated.

I think the goal is to work your pinkie inside the forskin when flaccid and streetch out from the inside. Seems awkward but I think it's doable.

Every medical archive I have read about phimosis said you should not try to strech it. for scar tissue resons

With phimosis, he would not even be able to retract at all. He can do so even when erect.

i *had* phimosis, i couldn't even stretch it a third of the way down the head of my penis. However, a month of stretching has losened up the skin so that it now stretches over the head, but 1) only just 2) it's tight and uncomfortable once it's over 3) it's very very very difficult to get back again
however, with a few more months of stretching I *hope* the skin will be loose enough that I no longer have these problems and I have a normal penis. If not then I need an operation

A question about sex with phimosis.... I would imagine that if you had a tight foreskin, it would be forced back when you tried to enter a woman and would be very painful etc. I was just wondering if it would be alright with a condom, would it not be forced back then?

hey notsogood i am interested as to what ur doctor exactly told you of your condition. because from what i have read and from my own experience, if you had proper phimosis you would have a ring of skin, muscle, or whatever, holding the forskin tight over the head, and i cannot understand how stretching or cream can make this losen.
with all these other people claiming they had phimosis i dont think they did because it seems like they just never thought of pulling the foreskin back.
did ur doctor say you actually had phimosis? did he/she discuss any other techniques, cures?

To reply to June, and as one of the people 'claiming' phimosis, it is curable without just cutting the skin off... otherwise these threads wouldn't even exist. It is exactly what it says on the tin; a tight foreskin. In my case, the inner layer of skin was so tight i couldn't pull it back because it was painful and just wouldn't go. Imagine trying to pull your lips over your head, that's what it felt like. The steroid cream is used to help loosen the skin, although it is not necessarily essential, as stretching it does just that... stretches. Humans are very versatile creatures y'know.
After a month of serious stretching (and several previous months of occasional but pessimistic attempts), my skin became loose enough to go back over the head while flaccid. And oh boy, the first time you see that something actually exists back there, it's pretty damn scary! After more stretching, the skin now goes back over the head when erect, although I need to be aroused, therefore lubricated, enough, and once it's back I can feel the tight skin digging into my penis. But, given time, the skin will hopefully have loosened up enough so that this isn't a problem. Whether it will easily slide back and forth over the head (it takes a *lot* of dragging forwards again at the moment), I am doubtful of but will see.
I am only part way through the process so possibly shouldn't be counting my eggs just yet. I may still need the dreaded 'partial circumcision'. The good news is the urologist who saw me said my skin was 'very tight' and he doubted very much if stretching and the cream would 'make any difference'. Shows what he knew. So for anybody ready to give up hope and have an operation they don't want'. Don't give up just yet!
Phimosis is just the beginning. :-P
p.s. Synchro, I was about to ask the exact same question! =) To add to it, I hear sex with a condom is risky if you don't pull your forskin back as the condom has a better chance of splitting, anybody know if this is true? Also, to help with my stretching process, I've been thinking of pulling the skin back and putting a condom on, then sleeping with it like that. This should get the skin used to being stretched back while erect (I always wake up erect so presumably I must sleep like that) and it will help the head being so damn sensitive!
Oh, and one last question... what role does a normal, uncut forskin have in sex? Does it roll back on entry and stay like that til afterwards, like mine probably will, or does it roll back and forth during intercourse like i always assumed?
If anybody could answer all these questions i'd be very grateful indeed!

For me it stays back even though it is not tight. Some will claim that it is supposed to roll back and forth as you go in and out. I don't buy that theory but I guess it might depend on the person.

Once you've given the cream you have a chance, if it still isn't working, try to get a script for Betamethasome cream.
Also, phimosis is a general term. There are two types. The first (can't remember the name) is the natural state of all young baby and boy penises, it's supposed to not be able to retract till at least out of the diaper years, sometimes into the teen years. Completely normal. I remember- it's congenital phimosis.
The other type is called aquired phimosis, brought on by forced retraction, infection (balanitis, yeast) or scar tissue. Usually the phimotic ring loses it's elasticity and becomes scar-like.
I can't remember how old you are, but if you are a teen, chances are great that you can resolve this. If you haven't had any other problems, such as chronic infections orforced retraction, chances are still good even if you are older.

Chances are not really good. I can't even piss properly now without it going everywhere. The opening has got even tighter than it was.
I will have to be circumsized. When I can be brave enough to face that fact and tell my parents, then all will be well. But until then, looks like I'll have to put up with it!

Yeah, I'm going down the circumcision route. I'd rather have no foreskin, saves the trouble. But what do I do to go about getting it done? do I simply go to the doctor and say I want circumcision? also, my doctor doesn't completely agree on the procedure, hence why I was put on the steroid cream, but it doesn't seem to be working. So last resort is circumcision!
I have my reasons for doing this. Yes it may be due to impatience but there's other things that are far to embarrassing that make me leap into this. First is the REALLY FUCKING IRRITATING LEAKING from the penis after peeing. I will go for a pee, shake the drips off and then go out the bathroom, as you do. After leaving the bathroom and either sitting or standing doing something for like 10 minutes, guess what? little bits piss stored up under my foreskin get loose and dribble down my trousers leaving an un-wanting smell and wet patch. It's happened right in the middle of a conversation before and luckily I had a long t-shirt going over the crutch area. Anyway I had to hurry off and go back to the bathroom and dry it up! I'm ABSOLUTELY SICK OF IT. No way on earth, am I putting up with this any longer. I am SICK TO DEATH of it. Yes it does sound funny and people will be laughing their asses off reading this. But imagine this was you. Imagine how ANNOYING this would be. I’m even afraid to go for a piss because of it. Mock all you want. I can expect silly responses.

Urine does not get trapped under the foreskin especially if you are tight. The only thing that can happen is that it is moist from the urine at the inner tip. The leaking you are talking about is actually comming out of the uethra and has nothing to do with the foreskin.

I have heard in cases of very bad phimosis of urine causing temporary 'ballooning' of the foreskin, as it comes out of the meatus faster than it can leave through the hole in the foreskin.
Notsogood, what about a dorsal slit? I agree that if the cream doesn't work (and I'm not sure you've given it an adequate try yet) that surgery may be necessary, but a dorsal slit is a way to correct phimosis while keeping the foreskin and its nerve endings.

If thing have got worse rather than better then it is time to consult your doctor again, but I would not assume that circumcision is necessary. Perhaps there is an infection.

Im trying the same thing...reading some of the first posts was like taking the words from my mouth, because like you I never knew we were even required to pull the foreskin back (havent lived with my dad in 10 years and it has never come up), I just turned 20.
Anyway, I got curious about it so did some searches on the net and thankfully stumbled across this site. I now feel better knowing Im not the only one and with some work this can be done. I dont think I have phimosis, I can stretch it all the way back when flaccid and I just think I need to work on it to the point where it will go back when Im erect too.
Ive been trying the stretching exercises for about a week now but Im not sure how properly I am doing them.
Are you supposed to stick your smallest finger (pinky) in between the head and the skin and kinda roll it around? pull the skin away? Thats what I've been trying to do so I hope it's been correct. Well I've been putting in my index finger I think...
I know not to expect immediate results but I would like to see at least a sliver of progress, although its only been like a week...lol

You're trying to enlarge the opening of your foreskin by stretching it some. It doesn't matter what finger you use but you should work at getting a finger inside of the opening and then working to make it larger. Making a circular motion just inside of it is one way, another would be to insert your finger in the opening and then "stretch" it open in all directions. Your goal is to increase the size of the opening through stretching so that when you're erect your foreskin will slip easily onto and over the head of your penis and then down onto the shaft. Easy movement back and forth without pain and you're all done! Gotta be patient and work consisently with this, a daily habit is best for a while and it depends on how tight your foreskin is as to how long it'll take. Let me know if you need more help!

Like lance said, you need to stretch the opening. just moving the skin around may not do much. You need to stretch it "out". The best way would be to get both pinkies in and stretxh apart, but I don't know if some can do this. My philosphy has always been to stretch by pulling back the forskin with a full erection

ok guys ive been reading a bloody lot of your posts and i have come to the realization that there must be numerous types of phimosis with different degrees of urgency.
Stretching the foreking is easy - just takes time BUT with some phimosis people like me, the phimotic ring which exists half a cm from the foreskin opening, without assistance, seems impossible to stretch, as it is scar tissue ot whateva.
I have discovered that with time, it is easy to stretch the actual foreskin foreskin, exposing a bit of the head, but the big problem is this phimotic ring that does not stretch (without medical assistance)
So i think you poeple who claim to have phimosis but just has tight foreskin should relax, stretching just takes time.
and those of you who talk about medical creams etc, do these creams help to stretch the foreskin, or loosen the phimotic ring, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!
cheers

June, I think you are right. Not every phimosis is the same and responds to the same treatment. Where there is a lot of scar tissue stretching may not work. The best thing would be for each person with foreskin problems to get advice from a competent urologist.
Unfortunately for those people in the US, it can be very hard to get competent medical advice about foreskins. First, because good medical advice there is expensive, and if a teen cannot persuade his parents he will have difficulty in being able to pay for it; and secondly, because many US doctors have little experience with foreskins and especially in conservative foreskin treatment, and are likely to recommend circumcision as the first line of treatment, rather than the last. In other parts of the Western world it is generally easier to get reasonable advice; but not every doctor is equally competent, and it is always better to go to the doctor well-informed about different treatments.
