I'm black and not all my pubic hair is straight, after all, the hair on my head isn't. It's also very coarse. I don't want to shave because I know my skin will scar and my scars are always darker than the rest of my skin. I've have what I assume were ingrown hairs and they really hurt. After they heal I get the ugly discolored scar, just like my acne scars on my face. I shave the bikini line every so often, not as frequently as years before because I started to notice scars. I do trim the pubic hair, but that's it. I had guys I'm close to ask me if I shave or not and when I said know I felt like hey were turned off. My ex specifically said he liked the shave look, but I had to explain to him how his hair (he's white) and my hair are different and because of this I would never shave. I feel like guys want the porn star, pristine, shaved vagina. Still, I refuse to shave.

So my question is: Guys, how turned off are you by unshaved, but trimmed pubic hair? If you are turned off, why? If you are non-black do you understand the difference in skin, scarring and discoloration...do you even notice? Ladies, if you're black or have curly, coarse pubic hair have you shaven it and how did it go? How does it look now...any scarring, discoloration, or ingrown hairs? Finally Does anyone think I could pull off a swimsuit with just a trimmed vagina?

for me trimming is a must but I don't particularly care if it's totally shaved or not.

to answer your other questions i don't think wearing a swimsuit with a trimmed area would be a problem

now my question if you could shave comfortably, would you? or is it like a principle thing at this point?

Probably not, too much effort. I don't even shave my arms and legs most of the time, unless my legs/armpits will be out and the hair is very noticeable. Showers take longer if you have to stop and shave everything.

I've seen shaved vaginas in porn and they look a little weird, especially if the skin is light. The skins looks like the skin on a chicken right after the feathers are plucked...you know with little bumps where the feathers ere ripped out.
Hmmm...maybe principle too. I hate doing something just because everyone else thinks is cool and whatnot.

Personally it's a huge turnoff when a woman doesn't keep on top of her armpit and legs. As for the pubic region, as long as it's trimmed short and often then shaved or trimmed makes no difference for me. I just don't want to have to make my way through a jungle.

But if you can't see it.... People can't see everything. This winter I'll be wearing sweater and pants a lot; I'll be shaving once a week or less. \:D

Well at that point I think it comes down to whether your SO is comfortable with it. I agree that if you're not seeing anyone or planning on getting intimate with anyone, then you don't need to shave at anywhere if you don't want to. I have to think that while most guys won't immediately run to the hills if you have a hairy vagina, hairy legs and arms are going to be a tougher sell.

Probably so, but it's not worth the pain, especially the arm pits. There is no way I'm going to shave my vagina, so I guess it's going to be a take it or leave it kind if thing.

Yeah that's probably the best way to think about it. Any guy who's going to not want anything to do with you just because you don't shave your crotch isn't a guy you want to spend your time with.

I'm black, too (obviously) and had this problem in the beginning. Since I've been shaving my pubes for nearly 8 years, I don't have the scarring or as many ingrown hairs now. I use a product called Tend Skin and it has been wonderful. It helps with the itch, razor burn and irritation. It also helps prevent ingrown hairs.

The more you shave, the more your hair will be "trained" in being shaved and you'll have less irritation. Since black folks' hair don't grow as fast, I recommend shaving your pubes once a week to cut down on the risk of causing further irritation. As far as other tips, don't use the same blades twice when shaving, especially on the pubic area. If you do, the dull blades will cause you to shave a certain area more than once, which will lead to irritation and razor burn. Also, use shaving gel, not shaving cream as cream tends to dry out the skin.

I've been shaving my armpits for years, and legs too. I still get scars and they take forever to go away. \:\( I want to try tend Skin though. I've never heard of it. I usually shave with the body wash I use. I'm afraid anything else will make me break out worse, and I shave my legs and armpits about once or twice a week.
