Smoke in any form has carcinogens which are harmful to your lungs, plus pot is usually unfiltered which doesn't help.

Cannabis apparently has 3 times as many carcinogens as tobacco, and, depending on the type of cannabis you buy, could be mixed with buggerloads of other crap. People tend to keep cannabis smoke in longer than tobacco smoke, and spliffs/joints/whatever normally contain tobacco and cannabis, which just makes matters worse.
I used to smoke cannabis, but I stopped around 6 months ago as I didn't like the effect it was having on my lungs. Smoking cannabis isn't good for you, but do what you want to do.

Does everything cause cancer now-a-days? and I'm not exactly sure, but doesn't weed have 3 times more tar, not carcinogens?
by general defenition isn't cancer a spontaneous mutation of a DNA stand? and we have no idea what actually causes it?

yeah pots pretty bad for your lungs... Although i smoked quite a bit and played Soccer 3 times a week at a regional level (which is pretty intense) and never really noticed a difference in lack of breath.

Tars in smoke - from any burning substance - always contain a lot of polycyclic aromatics, which are potent carcinogens. It's not really true that everything is a carcinogen, and a lot of things are only very weak carcinogens, only significant if you take a huge amount of them. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons aren't weak.

Hey Ineligible, quick question: How are carcinogens classified? wouldn't the tar (or polycyclic aromatic) have be different in weed and cigarettes? which one is the stronger carcinogen?

Tars are very complex mixtures, but tars from smoke do all contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. There are many of them, and they vary in carcinogenicity, so it's difficult to study them that way, though most will be in all smoke tars, though in varying proportion. The easiest thing is just to do animal tests on the tars themselves. I believe that when that is done, marijuana tar comes up considerably more carcinogenic that tobacco tar.

Don't worry about it. cannibis is no where near as bad for you as tobacco, and no one has ever died from weed, ever, its just not possible. And don't worry about lung cancer from it... Even though it is possible, it most likely wont happen..
