Ok, this is confusing, here goes. I'm pregnant for the second time and my doc recently said I've got Chlamydia (which means my husband probably does, too). Now, I haven't had sex with anyone but him since the fourth month of my first pregnancy. If I had it first, why didn't they pick it up with the first pregnancy or at the Pap smear 6 wks after giving birth? If he had it first same thing, why only now showing up? And if I got/had it in the first pregnancy, could my son have it now (he was a C-section)? Should I get him tested? Also, we both bathe the kid in the shower with us, could he catch it from the bathwater or something like that?
Any info at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Chlamydia can go undected in the body for up to 10 to 15 years. My best guess is that your husband had it but remained asymptomatic throughout your first pregnancy, and you didn't contract it from him somehow. The reason I say you didn't get it from him during the first one is cuz they automatically check for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea during a pregnancy, as well as HPV (do you remember getting the test?). Or, you got it during the fourth month of your first pregnancy from someone else (did I read that right?) As far as bathing together I think you're ok, but the discharge which oozes out of the infected area is very contagious, so I would make sure the WHOLE FAMILY got antibiotical treatment before sharing towels and other intimate articles which may rub against more than one genital in the family.

ok, that makes sense. I didn't know that about pap smears, either. I think I'll get us all tested to be safe. And we each only had one other partner, and as for me, he can rot for all I care. (my son's sperm donor, btw)

ok, my doc prescribed something called Asithromycin (Zithromax) for it. It's four pills, taken all at once, only one dose. Anybody know how long this is supposed to take before I'm "cured"?

They should have told you there, or maybe you could have asked? It sounds to me like you should abstain from sex for one week during your treatment.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, my doc's kinda dumb. I see the ob, and then get the prescription filled at the military clinic. So communication is all screwy. But I'll ask at my next appt.

It's always a good idea to get retested after you have finished taking your medication. In some cases it's not always cleared up.

thanks for all the research Ineligible (really, what would we do without you ). No, my doctor didn't tell me squat. He actually doesn't remember giving it to me. Here's the situation. He prescribed it with one refill, one for me and one for my husband. I took mine, but the refill couldn't be called in for a month. We were going to just abstain, but.... Newayz, now I get the refill tomorrow, and will not eat anything around it (thank you, I didn't know that) and he has an appt with HIS doc to get tested. Plus I'm gonna get my son tested, too. I'll let you know how it all goes. Man, this is a bitch to deal with. A lesson on the worth of condoms, eh?
